I should be doing homework but...

Sunday night True Blood premiered on HBO. Imagine my surprise when I found out that my school even got HBO! Who knew? It was quite exciting, I assure you. I hadn't planned to watch True Blood. In fact, there was a four story party going on in my building and I was hoping to check out some MST3K on the fourth floor. That, however, did not happen (and, as it turned out, the sound system was fucked so you couldn't even hear the robot/human snark) and I ended up in a friend's dorm room just in time to watch little more than the second half of the episode. Between asking her questions about what happened in the book, her not remembering (or refusing to remember...yeah, apparently it was quite bad) and actually watching the show, I was torn between loving the awfulness and wishing I were outside hula-hooping.

Thing is, I'm definitely liking the concept. Vampires are out and proud because synthetic blood makes it so they don't need to feed on humans anymore. Apparently their blood is super special and in high demand, though...Haha, it's funny because now people are draining THEIR blood. Oh, the irony. Of course, vampires are not quite accepted by society just yet. I wonder if there are any real world comparisons for this?

Execution so far is kind of meh. I like Sookie, mostly because she's played by Anna Paquin and I heart her, but she's also meh at the moment. Her sassy friend, Tara, is WAY more fun. Also, her SexyVampireNot-Lover is more creepy than sexy. Yes, I am being superficial but from what I understand this show is supposed to be chock-full of the pretty. The whole "Sookie can totes read your mind" thing is kinda cool. I'm just wondering, does Sookie always hear people's thoughts or can she control it? If she can't, then I feel more sympathy for her and can understand why she's drawn to SexyVampireGuy more. She can't hear his thoughts and apparently he can shut off the voices. I prefer that theory to her wanting to be with him because of what he is and that she finds THAT appealing. I hope that made sense.

This show is on the border of being wonderfully bad and just unbearable. Maybe it will be better next week? In the meantime, I'm going to rewatch all of SG-1 (I'm up to season 4!).
