Holiday Traditions

Happy Christmas to my goyim out there! While you've been having family dinners and whatnot I've been having a fabulous fourth night of Chanukah. We went to Chinatown for dinner in order to fulfill Jewish stereotypes and man was it good! Sadly, we did not see a film (another part of said stereotype for the uninformed). I did, however, just watch about three hours of Ghost Hunters on SciFi and began contemplating whether I thought it was all BS or if it had an iota of truth to it. Still not sure where I fall.

Tomorrow (well, today...it is 2 AM afterall) we're having a Jew party where we will be making koeksisters, which rock. Ours look better than the ones pictured on that website, fyi. It's part of our family's Chanukah tradition. Every year we get a ton of people to come over and we put them to work braiding dough we've already made and then Mum puts them in the boiling oil and fries 'em. Since the oil is dangerous only Mummy is allowed to do it because she's a grown up. I do the syrup. Our syrup is made up of a shitton of sugar, some honey and some ginger and water. Syrup, of course, is the most important part of the process. You need to make sure that the entire koeksister is covered head to toe in syrup and you leave it in the pot for a bit to let it absorb the syrup. There's always that period of time when the koeksisters are being made faster than I can get them in and out of the syrup so there's a backup and I stay in the kitchen longer, playing catch up. It's a very fun time and a wonderful party!

You may ask me, "why do you guys make koeksiters? Obviously I have read the wikipedia article you have linked to and know what they are now, but it says they have a South African origin and if I've paid attention to your previous posts on the board, aren't you from the US?" To this I would reply, "Why yes, kind friend, I am a US citizen. But my mother is originally from South Africa. She brought/found the recipe and we've been making them for Channukah ever since I can remember." You might then ask, "Why for Chanukah specifically?" And I would explain, "Because one of the traditions for Chanukah is to eat food that is cooked in oil. It has to do with how long the oil in the Temple lasted."

So Happy Christmas/Chanukah/Saturnalia/Festivus/Kwanzaa/Unbirthday/Whatnot!!!

Love,
Adri

POSTING PARTY

I felt we should keep up this posting frenzy because as of yesterday at 4 PM I am also done with school! Sadly, typing is not very fun. I may or may not have cut the very tip of my middle finger on my left hand off in an X-acto blade related accident a few days ago. Luckily I didn't bleed on my project so I could still use it in survey! Yay! I would post pictures but I sort of kind of forgot to take photos of my wall. Mum did so maybe I'll be a show off later. I will, however, be posting my final project on my personal youtube soon and favorite-ing it on BW's youtube so you guys can see the epicness. As a teaser, let me tell you that it involves a sword fight and AWESOME. One reaction to it was "OMG ADRI THAT WAS EPIC" to which I asked "Did you watch it with the music?" and he replied "THERE WAS SOUND??!!!" Oh, good times.

Anyhoodle, I really liked Melis's post where she replied to some of our comments. We do have this unspoken thing where we don't reply directly to comments using our Badgerstaffwhenevs account because there are so many of us participating and only one of us has the account password. Speaking of, if you guys want the ability to post stuff on our youtube, email me and we'll figure something out. But I digress. We do read what you write and really appreciate the feedback.

Even though I'm pretty sure that very few, if any, of our youtube watchers know about this blog let alone follow it, I figured I'd ask them a question.

What do you guys want to see on our youtube? More reviews? Shorts? If you want more reviews, do you want us to continue to piss off Twilight fans everywhere and do the rest of the series (if so, do you care about our sanity?) or move onto other books/movies? If the latter, what books/movies do you think we should check out?
Thanks!

So that's it for now. Adri's gotta get to Union Square in a half hour and the trains take for f-ing ever. Ciao!

Haters to the Left

There's been over a month of silence on the blog, but we're sure a bunch of you can relate to the reason - that time of the university/college term where everything's due and then come the exams. And now the winter holidays are upon us all, so you should be seeing more from us over on Youtube.

Speaking of Youtube, in the several months since we posted our Twilight review, the hits and comments have kept on coming. Our official policy isn't to respond to the comments directly on Youtube (as far as I know) especially when it concerns the odd flame we receive. We do see your comments though, and your compliments just totally make our days!

This blog though seems like fair enough space (and I doubt any nay-sayers bother to read it) so I'd like to take this entry to go through some choice comments - both positive and negative - that we've received.

From silvertamagachi: "I'd let sparkly!Aladdin sneak into my bedroom and remove me of all human rights."

Exactly. I mean, it's not like Aladdin DOES anything... other than sit in the corner in a rocking chair ALL.NIGHT.LONG. (Peachers, you could be on to something!)

From FrenzyChickenStudios: "haha even though i luv the book that barbie part made mee pee my pants!"

Peachers - making people piss themselves since 2008!

From Mbmonkey: "You guys are hilarious. x]"

Thank you! We do try our best!

From decaydancegurl23: "okiz some of your video was funny and i admit it was true in some parts... but at some points you just went TOO FAR!"

It's comments like these that really make me smile. I mean, really I was the person who really ragged on Twilight the most. Laura said she rather enjoyed it, and Adri didn't seem to know where exactly to fall. Sure she didn't like it, but she didn't seem to hate it either. And yet people feel so slighted by our review because we didn't fangirl and flail over what is - in my opinion - on of the worst abominations of literature ever. Frankly, as far as I'm concerned, the only person who has permission to be seriously butthurt by our opinions is Stephenie Meyer herself (which, from what I've seen, is a strong possibility thought I've seen worse from other people). But I guess to some fans, opening their eyes and seeing how ridiculous a book they like is... just HURTS. But we're sure not sorry about it.

From holechko232: "wow, you have like NO life. shes has enough thoughts dipshit. shes VERY complex. i just think you need to go back to the 70's miss BEATLES shirt."

Evidently, our video has thrown you into such a rage that you find yourself unable to type or know my name. I mean, it shouldn't be hard... our names were given at both the beginning and the end of the review. Also, you're off by a good decade on that insult. The best thing about this is that we DON'T need to get involved, because a sane person usually comes by to offer up the proper correction/defence in the comments on theit own. But yeah... The Beatles? Try the 1960's, thank you. SpinachPuffs said it best: "YOUR COMMENT HAS FAILED TO DAZZLE ME."

Also, let it be known that if anyone EVER wants to convince me otherwise that Bella does indeed have thoughts, feel free to! I'm eager to hear a proper argument.

From reneconner58: "F*** you. If you can't understand it then you must live a sad and lonley life. I don't feel one Oz. of sympathy. Twilight is about a couple. I couple who cannot possibly be together, but yet they try. They try and try and try. Edward's love for her overpowers the monster within him. It's a love story. You are a disgrace to the entire Twilight community and to Stephenie Meyer."

I think a lust story covers it better. All they want to do is jump each other and have lots of raunchy sex. But if that's what's passing for love these days then OKAY!

From JustMissMelon: "okay after 18 seconds this was not even worth watching, if you hate it so much why waste your time talking about it (rhetorical question)"

BECAUSE WE CAN.

From CptnTightpants: "I kind of love you all for this."

Believe me, we love all of you for watching!

From erinya13: "You guys are awesome and made me LOL. This should totally be a series."

Thank you! And while we will be working on other projects, this might be an occasional reoccuring series. And the books might not always necessarily suck too!

From Dominican231: "you guys r gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay seriously n i im not hatin im juxx telling da truth"

Well I am feeling pretty damn happy right now.

From Scapegoat723: "Hey, Beatles shirt. You are a god. This review is fucking awesome."

As it happens, I'm not technically a god. Timelady is more like it, but then again, a lot of lesser beings perceive us as godlike so... okay, I'll give you that one.

From neispita: "Awesome stuff, now I have to read Twilight. For the lulz. And I'm now very jealous that I don't have friends who'd do this sort of thing with me. Hope to see more of you, afterall fandom is infinite in its possibilities..."

You're exactly right! Fandom is infinite in its possibilities, and there will be more to come from us. There's some school vacation time ahead, so hopefully you'll see a finished video from us soon!

In the meantime, you could always check out Robot Girlfriend!

And until then, stay brilliant!

Look! An Update!

Look! A brand-spankin' new episode of Robot Girlfriend!

Sorry for the lack of update-age...and videos. There's this thing called school that's totally harshing my youtube buzz. I'd so much rather create a video than design labels for a 4-spice pack sampler and then create a business identity for a non-profit using a Beatle's lyric as my tagline or make a book about cupcakes. Art school craziness.

Every so often I do put up videos on my personal youtube (and by every so often, I mean once) that was homework stuff. You can find that solitary video here.

And that's taking care of business...

As many of you know, there are a few TV shows I follow religiously, no matter how crap they are. One of those shows is Smallville. I was afraid that once Michael Rosenbaum and John Glover left that it would suck. But as an Allison Mack fangirl, I have kept watching and have been pleasantly surprised this season so far.

Characters that have annoyed me in the past are gone (OMG NO LANA YAY) and some characters have been pretty much retooled completely but are finally the way they should be (Lois is ACTUALLY competent...sometimes). I wish I could ignore past seasons and their characterization because it's just a HUGE jump but what can you do? I'm going to accept it and enjoy my crappy show.

Chloe is pretty badass. Now she's super smart and super heal-y (or is she? I don't know if they ever mentioned if she can still heal people) and engaged to Mr. Jimmy Olsen (not so much awesome...Jimmy is sweet but Chloe is too awesome for him) and obviously something is going to HORRIBLY wrong. Kind of excited to find out what that something will be. Probably something to do with Davis, the new more interesting male character.

Davis is cool. He's interesting and hot, two very good things in TV. I wish Chloe was with him instead of with Jimmy. They have crazy chemistry! On the topic of new characters, Tess is meh. My opinion of her changes every time she has a different scene. Her scenes with Oliver are all anger and sexual undertones, when they're about finding Lex she's probably in love with him or whatever and when she's trying to be intimidating it just doesn't work, when she's with Clark or opposite anyone at the Daily Planet she's at her best. So far, Davis is my favorite newbie.

I'm glad that they're finally getting Clark out of Smallville (yeah, I realize the show is called "Smallville" but most of the action is in Metropolis and you know it!). It's only been, what, eight seasons?? And they're FINALLY tying up loose ends from season one, too! It's fabulous!

Other guilty pleasure shows include, as previously mentioned, True Blood. I also have been watching Sanctuary because I heart Amanda Tapping. What are your guilty pleasure shows?

Check out Robot Girlfriend!

You can check it out on BW's youtube channel or you can find it here!

Our lovely badger Laura K is the star of this wonderous creation! Please support her and show your love. I know I'm intrigued by this new series and I hope that they keep going with it. :-)

Don't worry, our next collab is on its way. Eventually. The millions of classes I'm taking are getting in the way with me actually doing things that are, you know, fun. So yeah. Sorry. I'm trying ya'll, promise.

In the mean time, I would love if Badgers put their personal video projects (not necessarily collabs) on our Youtube. I have a few that are short projects I've done for After Effects class that could be uploaded but don't know how other people feel about that. It's really just a forum for us to express ourselves creatively. So, what do you think?

Pointlessly awesome

Well, hello there, internetland!

I thought it was about time that I contribute to this new fangled blog thingy.
I have to say, I love this new power. It tingles in all of the right places. Mmmmmmmmmmm.

Anywho, a little bit about me, for those of you who are confused.

I'm Eileen.
Some of you may know me as Peachers, from both the SBMB and the awesome BW Twilight video. I was the one with the sparkly Aladdin doll. You can call me whatever you want. I love having random nicknames.
I'm not sure what purpose I'll be serving in this blog. I'm thinking I'll just post random funny nonsense from time to time. But who knows. Whatevs.

So, let's talk nonsense, shall we?

Here's what's going on in my mind right now:
-I wish more people said "Bless you!" after a sneeze.
-Hugs are effing awesome.
-Having the door held open for you by a good looking stranger is amazing.
-It must suck to be a guy. They can't sexily daydream in the middle of class like I can, because they have a boner to worry about.
-I want cake. Like....NOW
-I also wish that more guys carried around pocket watches.
-I wonder if random people actively stalk my facebook profile as much as I actively stalk profiles of people who I barely know.
-Hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.---- That was me playing with my H-key, because it's being randomly sticky with me. I'm a little worried.

Yay.

And then there were... two?

Hello! I hope you're all seated comfortably. I will be your blogger for this evening. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Melis, one of the badger vloggers you've seen on the Youtube channel and I will be working to update and maintain this blog alongside Adri.

Sure there isn't a great deal of... well... anything to this post, as we are all in the midst of working on bringing you our next video on top of juggling all the business of our lives. Real life just seems to have that horrible tendency of getting in the way and demanding attention. Though, you know, I'm sure Adri could work on more editing if she wasn't watching True Blood right now on HBO. (Because I'm so totally not. Right now. Seriously. OH GOD, WHY IS THIS SHOW SO BAD?!)

So, what can you expect from me within this blog? Aside from the bantering of "yes, we are working, trust us." Well, the answer would be whatever I feel like mentioning at the time. This won't be a constant chit-chatter blog about whatever... I have my own LJ for that if you're curious about fandom activities.

We hope this blog will also be the place for you to voice questions, comments, criticisms (constructive, people, constructive), suggestions, ideas. Yeah, we're eager to hear what sort of things you think you'd like us to tackle or talk about. Will we do those sort of things? Maybe, maybe not. We're not super popular or anything, and we're not going to run this thing pretending we are. Our team of vloggers and cynics are here to have fun and we want to keep on having fun. So I guess what I'm trying to get at here is that yes, there will be future editions of "Reading. So You Don't Have To" where we might do another Stephanie Meyer book and we might do other sort of books, but we also plan on trying other things out. Kind of like we're doing right now where we've decided to tackle the Marry/Shag/Cliff game which... uh... doesn't involve reading or books.

Okay, Adri may have found Mr. Not!EdwardVampire creepy... but I kinda like him. He's a bit creepy a good deal of the time, but he's a VAMPIRE and he SHOULD be creepy. But he's kinda cute... almost a Mr. Darcy look to him. Or maybe he's just cool because he cannot CLIMB THROUGH YOUR WINDOW AND SIT IN THE CORNER WATCHING YOU SLEEP LIKE EDWARD SPARKLE CULLEN DOES.

Looks like that's it for now. Keep watching the blog (if you haven't got a Blogspot account, we also have a feed on Livejournal, or you can just bookmark us) for updates and our next video.

Cheers!
Melis

I should be doing homework but...

Sunday night True Blood premiered on HBO. Imagine my surprise when I found out that my school even got HBO! Who knew? It was quite exciting, I assure you. I hadn't planned to watch True Blood. In fact, there was a four story party going on in my building and I was hoping to check out some MST3K on the fourth floor. That, however, did not happen (and, as it turned out, the sound system was fucked so you couldn't even hear the robot/human snark) and I ended up in a friend's dorm room just in time to watch little more than the second half of the episode. Between asking her questions about what happened in the book, her not remembering (or refusing to remember...yeah, apparently it was quite bad) and actually watching the show, I was torn between loving the awfulness and wishing I were outside hula-hooping.

Thing is, I'm definitely liking the concept. Vampires are out and proud because synthetic blood makes it so they don't need to feed on humans anymore. Apparently their blood is super special and in high demand, though...Haha, it's funny because now people are draining THEIR blood. Oh, the irony. Of course, vampires are not quite accepted by society just yet. I wonder if there are any real world comparisons for this?

Execution so far is kind of meh. I like Sookie, mostly because she's played by Anna Paquin and I heart her, but she's also meh at the moment. Her sassy friend, Tara, is WAY more fun. Also, her SexyVampireNot-Lover is more creepy than sexy. Yes, I am being superficial but from what I understand this show is supposed to be chock-full of the pretty. The whole "Sookie can totes read your mind" thing is kinda cool. I'm just wondering, does Sookie always hear people's thoughts or can she control it? If she can't, then I feel more sympathy for her and can understand why she's drawn to SexyVampireGuy more. She can't hear his thoughts and apparently he can shut off the voices. I prefer that theory to her wanting to be with him because of what he is and that she finds THAT appealing. I hope that made sense.

This show is on the border of being wonderfully bad and just unbearable. Maybe it will be better next week? In the meantime, I'm going to rewatch all of SG-1 (I'm up to season 4!).

Woohoo BW Blogspot!

Apparently Youtube has this character limit in its description box so that kind of screwed up the idea of keeping a sort of update thing there. We'll still use it for updates but if you're one of those people who wants to know what's going on NOW, this blogspot will most likely be updated more often and with more mundane things. Yay!

So anywhoodle, we're currently in the planning stages of making our next video. As we teased on the Youtube, it's about something you see every day but never think about in the context we will be using it in...does that even make any sense? Who knows?! Still, we hope you'll enjoy it when it eventually is uploaded. The lovely badgers who participate in our fabulous videos still need to send in their parts so it can all be edited together into one big happy video.

Right now many of us have started the school year once again and are going to be busy. Possibly too busy to make videos on a regular basis (not that we do that now, so maybe no one will notice the difference). So be patient and hopefully the videos will be worth it! Thanks so much for watching and we love your feedback.

Sincerely,
BW
